It's Been Too Long And I'm Lost Without You

My, how the years fly. It was on this very sad day eight short years ago that Ms. Aaliyah Haughton passed away due to an ill-fated plane crash when she was just 22 years old -- exactly how old I am now.

Now I'm sittin' here
Thinkin' 'bout you
And the days we used to share
It's drivin' me crazy
I don't know what to do
I'm just wonderin' if you still care
I don't wanna let you know
That it's killin' me
I know you got another life you gotta concentrate, baby
Come back...to me
Can you...feel me (callin')
Hear me...callin' (for you)
For you...

Words can't express how much of an influence Aaliyah has had on R&B, both universally and in my own personal collection. We miss you, Baby Girl -- and it just hasn't been the same since you first "Rock[ed] the Boat."

If the video below for her postmortem single "Miss You" doesn't leave you feeling extreme longing for what she could have been, I don't wish to speak to you today. It's nothing personal, that's just the way I feel. The reality is -- Aaliyah was 'one in a million'. Today is a sad day.

:( R.I.P. Aaliyah. I can't believe she would've been 30 today. WOW!

"Miss You" is my favorite song by her.
