[WGO] Albums, Idols and Radio

Results for the race to #1 on the Billboard 200 are in for the week. Good ol' Dave Matthews Band swept it in a very big way. The latest record by the DMB, dubbed Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King, raked in an estimated 424K+ this week, beating out Eminem's Relapse (as predicted), which sold 141K+. The album has already been dubbed the best of DMB's career by several tastemakers at Rolling Stone magazine, and will certainly land them one of the biggest debut bows of the year, I think.

Rounding out the Top 10 will be 311 Uplifter (debut), Green Day 21st Century Breakdown, Chickenfoot Chickenfoot (debut), Hannah Montana: The Movie Soundtrack, Taking Back Sunday New Again (debut), Lady Gaga The Fame, Kenny Chesney Greatest Hits II and Taylor Swift Fearless. Rancid and Elvis Costello also debuted this week in the Top 20, and Mitchel Musso, as predicted, lands at #19, selling just over 20K.

Speaking of Album Charts, Hits Daily Double is reporting an expected haul for Black Eyed Peas' latest, The E.N.D., to be somewhere around 190-215K in their first week. It will probably land them at #1, but the figures are much lower than expected considering the worldwide phenomenon that is "Boom Boom Pow"...

In 'American Idol' news: Adam Lambert is gay! I know this is hard to believe and you totally didn't see it coming, but it is the truth. (Note: Pleas tell me you sense my sarcasm here.) You can read his entire interview in this month's Rolling Stone. His debut album will be released through RCA/19 and is expected by early next year, if not earlier. Fourth place finisher, Allison Iraheta, announced her record deal to Jive Records (home of Justin, Britney and Chris Brown) yesterday as well. I think that will be a good fit for her...

Linkin Park's new soundtrack hit to the Transformers sequel, "New Divide", is currently the most added song at Top 40 radio for the week. And the most added song for Rhythmic radio is -- ::blinks confused:: The Ting Ting's "That's Not My Name"? Hurrah!

In more Top 40 Radio News: Miley Cyrus and Pitbull are thirsty to take over the Top 5. "The Climb" sits at #6, and "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" lands at #8. Lady Gaga's "LoveGame" also claws into the Top 10, gaining at a rate of 18%. Kristinia DeBarge's not saying "Goodbye" anytime soon, landing at #12 and gaining nearly 2K fresh spins this week. Although it seems to be climbing slowly, Jordin Sparks' is "getting her armor" and fighting on. "Battlefield" lands at #30, and gaining at a rate of almost 52%. Right behind her is Jessie James with "Wanted" at #31. The Pussycat Dolls' tribute to disco, "Hush Hush" lands them at #44 (and swiftly gaining by 26%). However, the Top 50 sees new entries by LMFAO ("I'm In Miami Trick" at #46), Cobra Starship ("Good Girls Go Bad" feat. Leighton Meester at #48) and Drake ("Best I Ever Had") at #49. Still no sign of V Factory. Sigh.

Over on the Rhythmic Format: Keri Hilson takes over the #1 spot with "Knock You Down", knocking "Boom Boom Pow" by BEP to #3. The #2 spot goes to Jeremih and his "Birthday Sex". Drake sits pretty at #4. Surprise Pleasure P and his single "Boyfriend #2" sits at #11. The ex-Pretty Ricky singer's debut album is due out his upcoming Tuesday. The Paradiso Girls breakthough single, "Patron Tequila", lands at #33 (and you can have your questions for them answered over at Pop+Nation!). Beyonce's new (snore) track, "Ego", (I prefer "Sweet Dreams") lands at #34 and gaining at a rate of 66%, while Pitbull's newest, "Hotel Room Service" lands at #36 and is gaining by 58%. However, the biggest gainer is the Black Eyed Peas' new David Guetta tingled single, "I Gotta Feeling", landing at #39 (up from #65) and gaining at a rate of almost 125%. Dang!

Speaking of David Guetta, how's "Love Takes Over" doing at Top 40? And how insane is it that the Ting Tings are moving to Rhythmic?

The DMB album is BRILLIANT! I haven't really gotten into an alternative album as much I have this one.

John - Last I checked it fell from #45 to #47, but is still gaining spins at a rate of about 15% at Top 40. I've yet to hear it on Z100 but it's getting just under 450 spins a week according to Mediabase.

Paul/J - I guess I need to check in to this DMB album, then? They're not really my thing but...
