Well, Someone Agrees With Me...

Gym Class Heroes guy (is he the rapper? I don't know...)/Katy Perry paramour Travis McCoy got a little defensive about the Best New Artist nominations for the Grammy's this year (probably because his lady didn’t get nominated), stating:

“The Best New Artist thing was definitely a fluke and a f--- up on the Grammys' behalf. We got the Jonas Brothers being nominated for Best New Artist and they're on their third record. So I'm like, 'How the f--- does that even make sense? No disrespect to them [JB], but it's like if you're gonna give a Grammy to a Best New Artist, why don't you nominate new artists?”

I love JB as much as the next girl (so take that for what it’s worth – no laughing), but I do think they being nominated was such a copout to appease their legion of obsessive fans, and boost ratings. And as much as I despise Katy Perry (and Gym Class Heroes, to be honest, even if one of them is from my alma mater…no joke), she probably did deserve a nom.

I haven't read the Grammy guidelines but isn't best new artist supposed to be given to an artist on his/her first album or who has just debuted during the year in question?

I've just lost all my respect for the Grammies.

I don't care if they want to boost ratings or sell more or make money in general, a Grammy Award or even a nomination is supposed to highlight the best MUSIC of the year, not the most popular artists of the year.

We begin to forget what drives this industry in the first place, why it was created. It's not for money, it's not for popularity, it was made for the music. If even something as big as the Grammies fails to realize that, then I think we're in a lot of trouble.

Putting the fact that I don't like the Jo Bros behind, I don't think they should've been nominated for the award, or any artist with that number of albums out already for that matter.

Ditto.

And I lost my real respect for the Grammys a long time ago. :(
